Events East Executive Vice-President Suzanne Fougere won the Sport Tourism Industry Champion at the 2025 Sport Tourism PRESTIGE Awards in Calgary on March 20. This award recognizes Suzanne's experience and efforts to significantly enhance and strengthen the sport tourism sector in Canada for over a decade.
This is the first time Sport Tourism Canada has awarded this category.
“This award recognizes the hard work of our entire team at Scotiabank Centre and the support of our event industry partners,” Suzanne shared.
“Working together, we continue to attract amazing sporting events like upcoming Harlem Globetrotters, Stars on Ice, and the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials. Events like these have a significant impact on our economy, our community, and the next generation of athletes in this province.”
We are proud to celebrate Suzanne's accomplishments in major sports event attraction and sport tourism, including recent events including the 2025 Rivalry Series, Skate Canada International, the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships, NHL games, and many more. Bringing major sports events to Halifax drives significant economic growth to the region, attracting high volumes of out-of-town visitors and direct spending, and reinforces Nova Scotia's reputation as an exceptional sports event destination.
A national organization, Sport Tourism Canada increases Canada's capacity to attract and host sport tourism events.
The PRESTIGE Awards celebrate the best in sports event tourism and Events East was delighted to represent the Atlantic region.
Other regional nominees for 2025 included the ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix in Halifax, the Nova Scotia Stampede in Truro, and Wayne Long of Prince Edward Island.
